The "Clean Coal" Myth

What percentage of the electricity in the world is produced using coal? What percentage is produced using coal in Mexico? What can you do to improve this situation? Do you think China could have the same economic growth without the coal? Do you think Mexico should burn more coal to grow at the same pace as China?

44% comes from burning coal, the cheapest and dirtiest fossil fuel, used primarly for electricity.
According to CFE and CRE by August 2010 the installed capacity* by carboelectrics was 2665MW meaning 5% of the total capacity of production of electricity in Mexico. This is in fact a really good percentage, because carboelectrics are highly polluting, it should be proposed that even if they cannot be replaced entirely with renewable energy, at least be changed by termoelectrics.
I think China can grow economically without using coal, but probably would be at a different rate by implementing other sources of energy to produce their electricity. However they cannot talk of being a developed country while the pollution is increasingly alarming and thus the diseases and deaths.
To improve their economy, Mexico should invest in renewable energy, we should invest in our country, we have a great amount of resources, wind, water, sun, geothermal heat, and we need to take advantage of that for producing electricity for our country not others, and also investing in the mexican talents and technologies, that can be as effcient as the ones from devoloped countries, but for greed or corruption are not supported.

Humans have been using coal as a fuel for hundreds or even thousands of years, and coal fueled steam engines in trains long before the liquid fuel-powered engines of today’s cars were in use.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reports that Mexico "produced 11.9 Mt of coal in 2007, which was an increase of 9% compared with production in 2006 but It was reported on August 10, 2012 that 32 small coal mines in the northern state of Coahuila were closed due to safety concerns.
It’s cheap, readily mined domestically, and generated almost half of all electricity in the EUA in 2009 as well as more than 40 percent of electricity produced globally.
i think china will be fine, they can change the way they obtain his energy fot something better and clean and needs to be quickly because it pollution is very high at this moment and increases.
Considering the energy capacity of the Sun, which will last for millions of years, as well as Mexico’s prime location on the globe, which allows the country stand on the world map of areas with the highest average annual solar radiation. We should use more of this resourse in méxico and other countries like us and do an exchange and use sustainable energy.
