¿What is planned obsolescence or built-in obsolescence? ¿In which products can we find it? ¿What is so bad about this design philosophy with respect to sustainability? ¿What does Marcos from Barcelona do at the end with his printer?
It was a great movie, i think it is absolutely true, we need to change our philosophy about consume, the history is really, we can repare something if it doesn't "works" we need to follow this example, how does the protagonist do! so our role in this, is that we need to create something durable, if we want to keep our jobs, we need to save raw material.
The Planned obsolescence is give to the things a time live, do it more obsolete, and is applied in all things manufactured and prefabricated. This ideology is so bad because we need throw away all that we buy in a determinated time, so involuntarily, we're doing trash, a lot of trash. And Marcos only intall a firmeware to reset the count of prints, ignoring the planned obsolescence.
Planned obsolescence is make that a product just has a limited time of use, give them a time of live. We can find it in almost every product especially those made in mass production. Is so bad because we are generating a lot of garbage a lot of trash and most of this can`t be recycled re-utilized. He install a Russian firmeware to resset the counter of the printer making it work again.
Planned obsolescence is to build a product with a certain time of use, so that the enterprise can assure that the customers keep purchasing their products, because they no longer function. Products are made to be replaced, because nowadays it's almost the same to reapir our products than to buying a new one. We can find these in almost every electronic devices. Now, people change their cell-phones almost once in a year. Most of the cell-phones, after one year of use, start to fail. We must wonder, what happen to all these products that we no longer use?... As we watch on the video, Third World countries are the ones which look more affected. The environment is the one who suffers all these changes caused by the massive products pollution. The river located in Ghana is now a huge garbage deposit; what will happen when we can't get rid of these unusable products? The environment will suffer the consequences. Finally, Marcos didn't want to pay for a new printer, so he started searching on the web how he could fix the problem and he found out, that there was a russian person who developed a firmware that was able to reset the counter of the printer, so it could worked as usual.
Planned obsolescence refers to "cut" the lifetime of the products to ensure their future purchase, again, and increase your sales. It is found in most of the products produced in large quantities, to ensure their sale if the consumer needs it. We instilled the culture of the purchase, not the reuse, which is why his practice is so common today. This philosophy only leads to accumulate large amounts of trash, damaging the environment, as the river in Ghana, which serves as the waste tank. It's so bad but, as we can see in the documental, is used to get people to buy and the economy continue, but consider this philosophy only causes more damage than good. And Marcos, seeing that all suggested he buy a new printer, searched the Internet and found a Russian firmware, to make the printer counter will reset and it will work again.
During the video, I thought it is hard to take a position as to whether planned obsolescence is good or bad, but with the last part of the video I realized that it is not really necessary, make durable products brings more benefits than making bad products . If the planet does not have infinite resources can not live as if I had.
Planned absolecence is to make products with expiration time, for making people buy new products in a centain time, the video talk about the light bulbs, printers and almost every product produce nowadays, the bad part about this idea is that is no sustainable because we discard more thing in a little time lapse, Marcos finally fix his printer with a software from a russian guy, this software make a reset in a counter in an EEPROM memory which make the printer stop working.
I rally like the movie, its very interenting because because we are envolved in planned absolecence every day, we bought and we throw a lot of things every day, its good for economy but very bad for sustainability because we create a lot of garbage forma TVE world. At the end The guy of Barcelona reset the counter that was making her printer dont work.
its very sad that all the new industries are educated in the sistem of planned absolescence, and that the european are always prepared for situations like this, its very rare to hear a european Brand that fail. at the end of the video the guy fix his printer.
This movie is an example of the actually of the consumism, it shows how the time of life of the products has dicresed, and now all the people buy, throw and then buy again. the planned obsolence is not good for sustentability we have to create annoter sistem to improve our economy and to not hurt the planet with all the garbage that we trow.
Maybe everyone had tought about that topic before but not everyone know that this its an actual kind of practice that the industry make to maximize profits. Its sad but we have to asume the responsability of purchasing things that maybe sometimes we really dont even use and we use it at most once or twice and we drop it. The responsibility to buy things just because this in fashion and not because it's really some quality stuff and it will last for life, we had convinced the dealers that they can sell low quality stuff and we will buy them not regarding of the price or the quality they want to impose
